The Bridle Path
Located near Lawrence Avenue and Bayview Avenue, just minutes from downtown, the Bridle Path is Toronto’s own “Millionaire’s Row”. With properties starting well in excess of a million dollars, the Bridle Path is one of Toronto’s most expensive and exclusive enclaves, boasting some of the city’s largest homes.
Enormous, sprawling gated mansions are surrounded by lush parkland and the Don River Valley. Individual estates range from one to six acres, adding a gracious, country-like atmosphere. You’ll find a mix of architectural styles from the 1930’s, 1950’s and 1960’s; Greek and Tudor Revival, Colonial, Georgian and Italianate homes share streets with California bungalows and modernist structures.
Early residents lived in quiet serenity, riding their horses and enjoying the country life. The area originally had an elaborate system of bridle paths, which have since been paved over and are now the wide, tree-lined streets that help make this neighbourhood so distinctive.
In keeping with the area’s equestrian traditions, nearby Sunnybrook Park has riding stables that offer lessons to the public. The park also has a cricket field and facilities for field hockey, rugby and soccer. Take a stroll through the magnificent botanical Edwards Gardens; its Civic Garden Centre is one of the best public gardening resource centres in the country.
Bridle Path residents are close to both York Mills Plaza and Bayview Village Shopping Centre, both of which offer an excellent variety of up-market shops and boutiques. The Bloor/Yorkville area, featuring such world-class names as Holt Renfrew, Gucci, Chanel and Tiffany’s, is within easy driving distance.
Lawrence subway station is a short bus ride away, and drivers can get around town easily via Bayview Avenue, Mount Pleasant Road, Yonge Street or the Don Valley Parkway.
